Artful Ashes

Writer's picture: A. MacDonaldA. MacDonald

I was aware of Artful Ashes before I met Randy and I had actually told my mother that I wanted to make some of my grandparents. Artful Ashes is a company that is based in Seattle, Washington and they make beautiful glass sculptures that have a portion of your cremated remains of a loved one.

Randy and I had many end of life conversations. I think that this occurred because we were both "sick kids" as I put it. Randy's mother purchased burial plots for her kids years prior. When I asked Randy about his last wishes, he indicated to me that if he is to be buried, he wanted to be buried in Hyden, Kentucky. I told him that I was not comfortable with him being that far away from me. He told me that I could cremate him under the condition that I make him into a starfish Artful Ash. He had seen one on his Facebook timeline and he thought it was absolutely beautiful. I told him that if that's what he wants, I will make it happen.

I shipped of the 1TBS of Randy in the first week of January. I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Randy. It has been very important for me to honor all of Randy's wishes. I honored them in his life and in his death. I have done everything the way he wanted.

I now want to share the finished product with you.

I want to thank Artful Ashes for their beautiful sculptures that give loved ones something to hold onto in the midst of such great loss. Thank you for helping me to honor my beloved husband's final wishes. You guys have been so kind and respectful and I greatly appreciate how you even called me to tell me that you received him and that he was headed home. Thank you for everything. You are truly amazing!
